Create a broader impacts plan
Every proposal submitted to NSF must contain a Broader Impacts (BI) plan, including a brief summary of the key elements of the BI plan in the one-page Project Summary, and a longer 1–2-page description of BI activities in the Project Description in a section labeled “Broader Impacts.”
The ARIS Broader Impacts Toolkit is designed to assist researchers in developing high-quality BI plans. The Toolkit consists of four tools that help researchers align their intended impacts with NSF priorities, identify the five questions that every BI plan must address, develop draft BI plans, and assess the quality of their plans.
- Broader Impacts Guiding Principles describe priority impact areas, BI plan review criteria, and the five questions every BI plan must address.
- Broader Impacts Plan Checklist helps researchers assess the completeness of their BI plans.
- BI Wizard walks researchers through the key steps in developing a BI plan, resulting in a draft plan that can be downloaded.
- Broader Impacts Project Rubric helps researchers evaluate the completeness and quality of their BI plan.
