Create a broader impacts plan
A simple rule of thumb for budgeting broader impacts is 10% of the budget. The BI section should not be considered an “optional” area that can be cut if a smaller budget is awarded than proposed.
The following are resources to help you create a plan for your broader impacts activities:
Broader Impacts Guiding Principles and Questions for National Science Foundation Proposals, National Alliance for Broader Impacts
The National Association for Broader Impacts (NABI) Broader Impacts Working Group has developed a guiding document for the National Science Foundation’s broader impacts criterion. The purpose of this document is to assist NSF program managers, proposal reviewers, and review panels in evaluating the BI component of NSF proposals and to assist proposers with developing their broader impact plans.
COSEE NOW Broader Impacts Wizard
COSEE Networked Ocean World created the Broader Impact Wizard to help you develop a broader impact statement that will satisfy NSF Criterion II and fulfill your interest in communicating your science.
