EAST LANSING, MI — Kwesi Brookins, vice provost for University Outreach and Engagement (UOE), has been named to the Executive Committee of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ (APLU) Commission on Economic and Community Engagement (CECE).
APLU is a membership organization fostering a community of public and land-grant universities that are committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of individuals, communities, and society through the continuous advancement of public higher education.
“It’s an honor to represent Michigan State University on this committee,” Brookins said. “I’m eager to work with leaders from member institutions across the country who are enthusiastic about university and community partnerships and deeply understand the benefits that can come from widespread collaborative efforts.”
Within this role, Brookins and other commission members will be responsible for expanding university engagement by focusing on three main tenets: place development through public service, outreach, extension, and community engagement; talent and workforce development; and innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development.
Additionally, the commission supports, promotes, and advances the community and economic engagements of APLU universities across five core activities:
- Professional development, leadership, and peer exchange
- Designation and awards for excellence
- Projects, research, and initiatives
- Communication around economic and community engagement
- Contribution to federal policy issues
Brookins is a member of the Executive Committee’s class of 2026 and will serve a three-year term.
