EAST LANSING, MI—Robin Lin Miller, a professor of psychology in MSU’s College of Social Science, was recently named to the international Academy of Community Engagement Scholarship (ACES).

Members of the academy represent diverse scholarly backgrounds that collectively advance university-community partnerships. Their work informs policy development, identification and dissemination of evidence-based practices, and high-impact community-engaged scholarship.

Miller was nominated by her peers, who recognized her leadership in community-engaged scholarship. “Your work improves life for many by bringing together partners who can successfully address complex issues and document positive outcomes reaching individuals, community, and society,” wrote Suzanna Morse Moomaw, ACES president.

As a scholar of ecological-community psychology, Miller’s research focuses on effective community-based HIV prevention and access to care, particularly among adolescent and young adult Black sexual minority males in the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean. Her work examines racial and homophobic structural stigma to identify interventions that reduce stigma and eliminate barriers to HIV-related services for young gay and bisexual males.

“Dr. Miller is an exemplary representation of Michigan State’s commitment to university-community partnerships,” said MSU Interim Provost Thomas Jeitschko. “It is gratifying to see her many years of achievements and contributions being recognized at this level, and I am confident that her knowledge and influence will add to the academy’s work in promoting the practice of community engagement.”

Miller’s scholarship and contributions to research and program evaluation relate to gay and lesbian health concerns, HIV, and humans right have been widely recognized through numerous awards, grants, and publications. Her work has actively advanced awareness in HIV testing, prevention, and care.

Miller is one of 24 new ACES members who will be inducted during a virtual ceremony on July 30.
