We welcome these applicants to the Summer Intensive:
- Early career faculty members interested in community-engaged research or community-engaged teaching and learning
- Tenure-track faculty who’ve completed their third-year review and are actively strategizing for their promotion reviews
- Extension or academic staff with community engagement responsibilities and commitments
- Advanced graduate or professional students who seek faculty or staff positions in higher education
Applications should demonstrate a commitment to:
- Research or teaching that contributes to their discipline or field while making a positive impact on the public, communities, or stakeholders external to the university
- Learn more about the scholarly principles and practices of community engagement
- Listen to community partners’ knowledge and wisdom and collaborate with them in decision-making
- Publish community-engaged scholarship in peer reviewed journals and academic conferences
- Communicate their engagement activities to community partners, stakeholders, policy-makers, and publics
- Develop their own community engagement strategies and action plans
- Participate in an interdisciplinary learning community of colleagues
Summer Intensive learners should come ready to spend four and half days at this academic intensive—in dialogue, reading, reflecting, planning, and strategizing about their community engagement commitments. To the extent possible, Summer Intensive learners should clear their schedules and be available for all of the Summer Intensive’s sessions.
A complete application includes (1) an online application completed by the learner (with a short biography, keywords, and statement of interest), and (2) an online nomination form completed by a department chair, supervisor, faculty mentor.
