Alyssa Saunders, College of Natural Science

In her communication and outreach, Alyssa Saunders seeks to make science content accessible and enjoyable. She has created programs that target nontraditional audiences including cat lovers, bar/pub patrons, anime fans, and the online crochet community. She partnered with the Constellation Cat Cafe to host an event called “The Science of Cattitude: Exploring Animal Behavior with Cats!” She helped organize Biology on Tap, bringing MSU researchers to a local pub once a month to give fun, nontechnical talks. She has presented at conventions about how science is portrayed in anime and video games. Saunders also develops and shares science-themed crochet patterns.
