Community-Engaged Scholarship Writing Retreat

Each October since 2016, University Outreach and Engagement has partnered with The Writing Center to offer a two-day, off-campus writing retreat in a natural setting, about an hour’s drive from campus. The retreat’s purpose is to provide dedicated time and space away from campus for faculty, academic staff, and graduate students to focus on writing about their community-engaged scholarship. The retreat schedule includes a combination of free writing time; optional workshops on basics of publishing community-engaged scholarship, writing process and practice, and selecting an interdisciplinary community engagement journal; peer feedback; shared meals; and one-on-one consultations to encourage strong writing habits, strengthen academic publishing skills, and support a community of writers.
