The Michigan Traditional Arts Program (MTAP) encourages the practice and appreciation of traditional arts and cultural practices and has a strong focus on the arts of Native Americans and ethnic minority groups in Michigan. The program recognizes excellence in traditional artistic practice through the Michigan Heritage Awards and encourages continuity of traditional practices in minority groups via the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program, both making annual awards to a number of practitioners.
