Organized by MSU’s National Collaborative for the Study of University Engagement, and co-sponsored by dozens of academic departments and units, the Engaged Scholar Speakers Series invited nationally renowned experts and leaders to campus to discuss the theory and practice of community-engaged scholarship. Speakers representing a wide range of disciplinary contexts and methodological traditions were invited from across academia, non-profit organizations, and associations. Topics ranged from research using citizen knowledge work to partnerships in the health professions, regional economic development, balancing hope and critique in the public humanities, higher education's public mission, arts and community, science and society, the urban setting, and work and family issues.

Invited speakers met with classes, faculty, and graduate student groups, with their visit in campus-wide public forums followed by networking receptions.
