The Yunnan Nationalities Museum and the MSU Museum have started professional exchanges that will focus on building the digital capacity to foster ongoing sharing between ethnographic museums in China and the U.S.  The Museum is working in partnership with MATRIX: Digital Humanities Center at Michigan State University to provide a state- of-the-art digital museum training and to foster greater ongoing collaboration between ethnographic museums that focus on folk and traditional arts in China and the United States.  The aim is to foster additional participation by folklorists, cultural heritage, and museum professionals in exchanges between China and the U.S.

During November 2014, the MSU Museum hosted four museum colleagues from China as part of a Professional Museum Exchange Program. Also, C. Kurt Dewhurst and Marsha MacDowell led the planning for the US/China Forum on Folklife/Intangible Cultural Heritage and Museums held in Santa Fe, New Mexico in November 2014.
